A historic manufacturer of premium cashmere, established in the Scottish Borders in 1903, Barrie Knitwear is renowned for its outstanding traditional expertise. Supplier to the most prestigious fashion houses, including Chanel, which acquired the company in 2012, the legendary mill for the Autumn-Winter 2014-15 season will launch its signature ready-to-wear collection. Designed by Odile Massuger, using only the finest cashmere, the line shakes up classic codes, transcending clean lines with a range of elaborate motifs and colours.

Across 20 silhouettes, cashmere takes on a new modernity-seductive, edgy, unique, appealing to all. An ordinarily strict pencil skirt adopts softer lines, while, breaking with convention, twin-sets sport new necklines, turned-up short sleeves and unorthodox colour mixes, in both all-over prints and plain versions. Hugging the hips, cardigans can be layered up with sweater dresses and oversized tunics.

From a pair of intarsia swallows swooping across zip cardigans to nee-camouflage sweaters evoking pastoral scenes of the River Tweed, the line brims with nods to Barrie Knitwear's heritage and the cashmere tradition. One abstract composition fuses an iconic Fair Isle knitwear pattern with a camouflage motif echoing oversized petals.

Classic shades like grey, sand and chocolate on marl knits clash playfully with pops of candy pink, electric blue, fuchsia, violet, burgundy, grass green, red and navy. While, in another surprising twist, the key characteristics of Delft pottery are worked into a theme, from the famous "Delft Blue" shade, and naturalist motifs like flowers and leaves, down to dainty hand-painted porcelain buttons.

Offering a new vision of cashmere at once rich, sensual and subtle, the collection marks a new chapter in the history of Barrie Knitwear.
